The FCRC commends the FCPS School Board for coming to a wise decision to follow the administration’s request to withdraw the recommendation for the adoption of the Second Step curriculum for middle school. Instead, they will pursue other strategies to better address a range of students needs without taking vital time away from the teaching of core subjects and by avoiding the expectation for the teachers to be responsible for teaching yet another subject area.

Decisions like this that generate passion among advocates of various courses of action are always difficult, but the School Board took input from parents, teachers, the administration, and community members to come up with a sensible and workable solution which we applaud. Thank you to all involved in this decision.
