About Us

About Our Committee

Who We Are

The Fauquier County Republican Committee is the local arm of the Republican Party in Fauquier County, Virginia. We are neighbors, business owners, veterans, parents, farmers, and professionals who share a commitment to principled governance, individual liberty, and the future of this county and this nation.

We are not Washington. We are not Richmond. We are Fauquier County — and that distinction matters.

The Republican Party operates at four levels: national, state, congressional district and local. Each plays a distinct role.

At the top is the Republican National Committee — the RNC. The RNC sets the national party platform, coordinates presidential campaigns, and manages the party’s resources and messaging at a federal level. It speaks for the party on the national stage.

In Virginia, the Republican Party of Virginia — the RPV — serves as the state party organization. Governed by a State Central Committee and led by a state Chairman, the RPV coordinates Virginia’s statewide races: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and United States Senate. It sets the rules for how Virginia Republicans organize, nominate candidates, and operate — including the standards that guide committees like ours. The Congressional Districts operate similarly within each bipartisan drawn congressional district.

At the foundation of all of it is the local unit committee — and that is us.

What Makes Us Different

The RNC and the RPV deal in platforms, strategy, and statewide messaging. We deal in people.

Voted 2025 VAGOP Committee of the Year

The Fauquier County Republican Committee is where the Republican Party actually touches the ground. We are the organization closest to voters — close enough to knock on their doors, sit across from them at community meetings, and understand what life in this county actually looks like day to day.

Our work is local by design. We support Republican candidates running for offices that directly affect Fauquier County residents — school board, Board of Supervisors, and local constitutional offices like Sheriff and Commonwealth’s Attorney. We drive voter registration and turnout. We train volunteers. We hold monthly meetings where any resident can walk in, hear what is happening, and get involved.

We are accountable not to a national committee or a state headquarters, but to the people of Fauquier County. That accountability shapes everything we do.

Meet Our Chair – Hugh “Tim” Hoffman

Tim Hoffman, our Chairman, moved to Fauquier County in 2013 after serving 45 years in the Department of Defense. Graduating from West Point in 1973 and commissioned as an infantry officer, he served in a wide variety of command and staff positions for nearly 30 years. Retiring as a colonel, he entered the civil service senior executive ranks of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. His last job before retiring a second time was Deputy Director, Defense Technology Security Agency (DTSA). Tim holds multiple master’s degrees, was selected to be the Army’s senior fellow at Harvard University in 1999, and is a graduate of the Army’s War College. His military and civilian awards include the Army’s Distinguished Service Medal and the DoD Distinguished Civilian Service Award. An avid cyclist, he takes great pride in having ridden his bicycle across the county in 2016 – a distance of 4400 miles. He can often be found riding the back roads of the county.

Upon joining the FCRC in 2018 he has served successively as a door-knocker, precinct captain, Vice Chairman for Precinct Operations and now as Chairman. He considers it a great honor to succeed Greg Schumacher, a good friend and an outstanding Chairman. He and his wife, Patti, love living in Fauquier County and consider having settled here as one of the great life decisions they’ve made. They have two daughters and two grandsons who live nearby.
