GOP CANDIDATE SPOTLIGHT:
GET TO KNOW BERT MIZUSAWA
US SENATE NOMINEE
| |
We know he’s a retired Major General and that he won the GOP nomination for US Senate to challenge Mark Warner.
But did you know that Bert’s father grew up in Hawaii where his grandparents immigrated from Japan? They worked on a sugar plantation (a very hard job) and Bert’s father and uncle both served in the United States military. Unfortunately, Bert’s uncle was killed in the Korean War. His father was a member of the US Air Force and met his mother in the Netherlands while stationed in Europe. After traveling the world, they settled in the Hampton Roads area when Bert was a teenager. Bert attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated top of his class, first out of 1,400 classmates. He also graduated from Harvard Law School with a JD.
Bert was honored to work on the US Senate Armed Services Committee, the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff and appointed by President Trump as a Senior Advisor for National Security Technology and Business Integration at the CIA.
Listen to WRVA‘s Rich Herrera’s interview with Bert (HERE) and hear his life story along with how he’ll defeat Mark Warner.

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY – POT IN VIRGINIA: PART 4
THE QUEEN BEE
STATE SENATOR LOUISE LUCAS
| | |
In our final segment reporting on “Money, Money, Money: Pot in Virginia”, a series about which Democrats pushed the legalization of marijuana, which will definitely harm our communities and the mental health of children. All for the collection of more tax dollars to expand the Commonwealth’s state government (and money for their friends living off government spending).
We end with the one individual who has the been the force behind the legalization of retail cannabis and who owns a pot shop that was recently raided by the DOJ and FBI – State Senator Louise Lucas.
Lucas holds immense power in the General Assembly as president pro tempore of the State Senate and as Chair of the Senate Budget and Finance Committee. To achieve the new cannabis law (to begin on July 1, 2027), Lucas has framed marijuana prohibition largely as a criminal-justice and racial-equity issue, arguing that enforcement disproportionately harmed black and lower-income Virginians.
Fighting for years (her previous bill was vetoed by Governor Youngkin), when the General Assembly and Governor’s seat flipped to the Democrats, Lucas, along with State Senator Adam Ebbin (now employed as a “undefined” Senior Advisor to the Virginia Cannabis Control Authority) sent to Governor Spanberger the law now going into effect.
Virginia will become the first Southern state to legalize retail pot.
There are no further reports about why the FBI raided Lucas’s “The Cannabis Outlet” and offices, or how she’ll benefit from the new law but don’t be surprised if she’s the news again. The trail of who’s going to make the most money out of the pot trade in Virginia is just beginning. We’ll be watching and reporting.

THEY’RE STILL LEADING!
THANK YOU TO FORMER GOVERNOR YOUNGKIN,
LT GOVERNOR SEARS AND AG MIYARES
| | All three of our former Republican statewide elected officials are still working hard for the Grand Old Party. Last week, Governor Youngkin was in Wisconsin helping Republican Tom Tiffany, who is running for Governor in the Badger State. Remember this is the state where the leading Democrat for Governor wanted to discontinue Thanksgiving. Fortunately she lost to a “moderate” Democrat who jumped back into the race. However, we know about the “Spanberger Method”. Just say one thing while campaigning and then govern completely differently! Watch the Governor’s speech taped on C-SPAN HERE. | | |
Former Lt Governor Winsome Earle-Sears is ready to hit the road to fight the awful, far-left amendments proposed to the Virginia Constitution being pushed by progressive Democrats.
The Life and Marriage tour begins August 5 and runs through Election Day, November 3. Earle-Sears will be crossing the Commonwealth over the next few months to encourage voters to vote NO on the first 2 amendments on the ballot.
Go HERE to support the Life and Marriage Tour!
| | |
Young America’s Foundation (YAF) held the 48th annual National Conservative Student Conference (NCSC) with the historic “Freedom at 250 Rally” at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. Former Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares was a guest speaker, reaching out to young conservatives.
Last week, Jason wrote an article in the City Journal titled “How to destroy a state in five easy steps.” He goes into detail on how the Democrats are undoing Virginia’s renaissance with a combination of tax hikes, pro-crime policies, an anti-business outlook and egregious partisanship. Definitely one to read (HERE).
| | THE GOVERNOR ESTABLISHES “EMPOWERING AMERICAS PARENTS” AND GOES ON THE BENNY JOHNSON SHOW | | |
Former Governor Glenn Youngkin recently formed the Empowering Americas Parents organization, a national policy advocacy group in support of President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cut Act.
The Act is revolutionizing parental choice in education through the Education Freedom Tax Credit. However, not all states have adopted this great opportunity for their children and parents. Thirty out of the fifty states have opted in to this life-changing opportunity for kids. The twenty remaining states (those mostly with progressive Democratic majorities) have not taken action.
NBC reported that Empowering America’s Parents will begin a multimillion-dollar advertising blitz targeting several battleground states, including Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. You can see their first video HERE.
The Governor went on the Benny Johnson Show this past week to discuss the effort. Click above or HERE for the complete interview.

Arlington County celebrated its 50th County Fair this past weekend and Arlington Republicans were there greeting voters, even rude young socialists.
As reported in The Washington Examiner (HERE or click above), 8th CD GOP candidate Tony Sabio stood his ground when a TDS afflicted woman attacked the President and Tony. Defeated, she resorted to foul language and walked away. These are the Don Beyer supporters? Support Tony’s campaign HERE.
| |
Our US Senate candidate, Major General Bert Mizusawa (retired) was on Fox News Night this past Friday. Interviewed by Mike Emanuel, Bert knocked it out of the park talking about the Democrats’ claims about defund the police, the war in Iran and the “Woke 1” movement
Click HERE or the image above to watch (the interview begins on minute 29:00). Asked about Mark Warner saying the US is losing the war in Iran, Bert reminds viewers that Warner is undermining the military and Virginia needs a Senator who stands up for our military and veterans and who can also work with the President.
| | |
It was parade and County fair time down in Culpeper County at the Brandy Station Volunteer Fireman’s Fair. Our GOP candidate in the 7th CD Doug Ollivant walked the parade and greeted voters with Delegate Karen Hamilton and State Senator Bryce Reeves.
His Democratic opponent, Eugene Vindman, was nowhere to be found. But he did make an appearance at the King George County Democratic Party meeting last Tuesday night where he got into a profanity-charged fight with his fellow far-left socialists. Read about how the f-bombs were dropped HERE.
| |
There is probably no person who knows more about how Fairfax County residents have suffered under one-party, progressive Democrat control than Arthur Purves.
The long-time President of the Fairfax County Taxpayers Alliance and tax reduction advocate kicked off his campaign to a packed room on Thursday evening, He’s up against Jim Walkinshaw, Gerry Connolly’s apprentice, who is even further left.

AROUND NOVA, THE COMMONWEALTH AND THE NATION
- SPANBERGER BOOED OFF THE STAGE AT MAJOR EVENT
- VIRGINIA POLICY IS MAKING OUR HIGHWAYS UNSAFE
| | |
As Fox News reported, along with numerous other media outlets, (and it went viral on social media), Virginia’s “moderate” Governor Abby Spanberger. attended the 90th Virginia Old Fiddlers’ Convention in Southwest and was greeted with a large chorus of boos from the attendees.
Fox News stated “the governor faces sagging poll numbers and lingering political fallout from Democrats’ failed push to redraw the commonwealth’s congressional map”
Spanberger lasted a whole 30 seconds on stage and then her staff covered it up by tweeting and stating that “Governor Spanberger and her husband Adam had a wonderful time at the Old Fiddlers’ Convention and Poor Man’s Dinner in Galax this weekend”.
If this is what her staff considers “having a wonderful time”, no wonder Spanberger’s approval rating is in the toilet with public opinion the worst of any modern Virginia Governor.
You can watch her on stage and read about the event HERE.

U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy appeared on the Laura Ingraham, Ingraham Angle Show, discussing the dangers of illegal migrant truck drivers on our highways. (Click HERE or above).
Specifically how states led by Democrats are not cooperating with the US DOT in revealing, as required by law, who in those states have CDL licenses. We’ve all seen the videos of horrible accidents where the migrant big rig drivers don’t understand basic highway safety rules.
Virginia is one of those states not complying with DOT and now, the “speedy” VA Attorney General Jay Jones (caught doing 116 mph HERE) has joined in a lawsuit against the federal government preventing transparency. This transparency would stop truck drivers with suspended licenses to jump from state to state to avoid losing their licenses.
Added to the dangers, if a state does not cooperate, DOT has the right to prevent sending any federal highway funds to that state. In FY2026, that was $1.46 billion dollars! If you think traffic in NoVA is bad now just wait!

VIRGINIA FAITH & FREEDOM COALITION
WHY AND HOW TO “VOTE NO” ON THE
VIRGINIA CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS
| | |
The Family Foundation Action organization has put out a series of flyers explaining how bad Constitutional Amendment #1 will be if approved on this year’s ballot. Virginia is one of the fastest growing states for abortions and this amendment would eliminate parental rights to know about or consent to a young daughter’s abortion or transgender operation; weaken health standards and safety while limiting oversight and accountability; and will increase dangerous late-term abortions and does not guarantee life-saving care if a baby is born alive. You remember, Democratic Governor Ralph Northam’s famous WTOP radio statement about the possibility of letting a baby just lay there and die after birth…
Go HERE for several informational flyers to read and share on the Virginia Constitutional Amendments.

Congratulations to the Fairfax Young Republicans on the approval of their club charter! This will grow the YR footprint in NOVA, build a pipeline of young GOP leaders across the state, and win some elections!
VIRGINIA YR ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Association is a network for anyone who has been part of—or supported—the Young Republican Federation of Virginia. Whether you served as a statewide officer, club chair, or dedicated local member—you helped build Virginia’s Young Republican community, and you’re part of this network.
If you were involved in YRs at any level, we invite you to join and help us rebuild the network, starting by inviting the Young Republicans you served with.

STRIKE FORCE
VOLUNTEER DEPLOYMENTS
NFRW Strike Force volunteers will door-knock in key battlegrounds to elect Republicans up and down the ballot and build momentum heading into the midterms.
Volunteers will walk neighborhoods to distribute NFRW and targeted Republican candidate door hangers to Get-Out-the-Vote for our entire ticket.
Hotels at designated home-base locations will be covered, and most will even include breakfast. There will be organized 8:30am briefings, door knocking during the day, group dinners to debrief and fellowship each night, and a clear GOTV mission.
*Virginia deployment is in support of Jen Kiggans (CD-2)

The mission of the Suburban Virginia Republican Coalition (SUVGOP) is to support Republican candidates and causes rooted in the fundamental, kitchen-table concerns that matter most to voters in Virginia’s suburban communities – family, vocation, community, and faith.
We believe that the Republican Party’s longstanding championship of limited government makes it best suited to lead in the Commonwealth by ensuring that government at all levels — city, county, state, and national — stays focused on its core functions and performs these activities effectively and in a fiscally responsible manner.
We seek to engage suburban voters across Virginia to promote Republican solutions to their concerns. We share these concerns — from taxes, to transportation, to education, to keeping our neighborhoods and schools safe, to rising health care costs, to cultivating a positive civic culture. We want our neighbors to know that the Republican Party cares about the issues most important to them and has thoughtful and innovative approaches to these issues.
We support policies and leadership at all levels of government that reflect America’s great history, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to freedom.
We, the members of the Suburban Virginia Republican Coalition, are Republicans of all ages and backgrounds, united by a commitment to collaboration and dedicated to ensuring that our communities are the best places possible for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren. Join us today!
